International Day of Peace

Hey Atlanta! On Thursday, join the movement to create peace. International Day of Peace (also known as World Peace Day) is observed around the world on September 21. This day was established in 1981, by the United Nations General Assembly to promote peace among nations and people.

Peace Day is usually focused on community unity, like a concert, festival, parade or a candle lit gathering. But Atlanta, in order for us to spread that peace, I believe we must be at peace with ourselves. To create peace, you must be at peace. This celebration is global, but it starts with one person, one family, one community at a time. We all want peace, I do not believe anyone is walking around wishing for turmoil. How do we get there is the question. Peace for me is retraining your mind to process life as it is, rather than what you think it should be. It begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or circumstance, to control your emotions.

So let’s celebrate International Day of Peace on a personal level and on a global level. There are many ways to spread the peace: donate to your favorite organization, treat a friend to a yoga class, volunteer at church or participate in group meditation and prayer. Whatever you decide to do, find your inner peace first & the rest will follow.

“He who lives in harmony with himself lives in harmony with the world” ~ Marcus Aurelius
