Cocktails on Me: Mango Mojito

It’s that time again! Time to have a drink and catch up on the latest news, gossip or just vent! Whatever you want to talk about, I’m down! So much is going on in the world today, it’s very hard to narrow it down to a couple of things, so I will try…..

Ok so….

  1. First, the Women’s March of 2018 was very exciting to witness! Thank you to the thousands of women & men who showed up to kick off the #PowerToThePolls campaign. We have a long way to go, but the momentum is great! We have to do more than protest & march, we have to take that energy and excitement to the polls in 2018, if you want to be heard and taken seriously. WE MUST GET TO THE POLLS & VOTE! If you want equal rights, equal pay, reproductive choices and not to be told that you’re an angry woman when you speak up, then you need to have your ass at the polls in November 2018! That’s it & that’s all……
  2. Ok so this Monique and Netflix boycott thang. If by some chance you don’t know what happened, here you go: Netflix offered her $500,000 to do a comedy special, she’s upset because they offered Amy Schumer $11 million, Chris Rock & Dave Chappelle $20 million. She says when questioning Netflix, she asked about her resume (she has an Oscar), Netflix told her they do not go by resumes. Now I’m just gonna say, I think Monique is funny and talented. She has definitely put in work as an entertainer, but at the same time, she has been acting a damn fool by burning good bridges (Oprah, Tyler Perry, Lee Daniels, etc.). I understand her fight, but it’s how you fight. You can’t ask people to boycott Netflix and you can’t act up publicly with bigwigs in the industry and expect people to sympathize with you. At the end of the day, it’s all about money. Amy has sold out Madison Square Garden (twice) & her movie was successful. Chris Rock & Dave Chappelle are comedy royalty, so I understand Netflix offer, was it a little low for my taste….yes. My suggestion is to take that money and use your platform to educate black women on how to negotiate & advocate for themselves. A boycott should benefit a large group of people, instead of just putting more money in your pocket.

Alright ATL, enough of my venting. I’ll drink to that and enjoy the Mango Mojito recipe!
