Organically Good!

Hey Atlanta! Spring is here and it’s time to venture out to your local farmers markets. Georgia has a variety of markets to choose from offering fresh, local fruits & vegetables, fresh flowers, arts & crafts. I love shopping for fresh, organic food- it reminds me of my grandmother’s farm, she passed when I was very young. Some of my best childhood memories revolves around working on their farm & helping with the garden, in the summer…waaaay in the sticks of Buena Vista, Georgia. Anything you can think of, she grew it. I honestly couldn’t feel my thumbs after shelling a ton of peas. They had chickens, cows, pigs and pecan trees (best pecan pie ever!)

Great memories I will never forget and always cherish. I will always have a special place in my heart for families who run their own farms & provide for our communities. So Atlanta, when you can & when it’s convenient, please support our local farmers markets regularly. I love to eat & given a choice, I prefer FRESH, ORGANIC, tasty fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately for me, I do not have the time, patience or a green thumb to run a garden! (You have to be real with yourself) 🙂

**And side note- If you do have a special talent to grow vegetables in your backyard, please consider donating your fresh fruits & vegetables to local food banks. Atlanta Community Food Bank will gladly accept your contribution, to help people who live in food desert communities, obtain fresh food.

Below I have a list of some of my favorite farmers markets. Most are seasonal, but there are a few that are year round markets. So enjoy the season, support family farmers & our local economy, but best of all, check out some new and different things. Every time I go to the farmers market, I make an effort to explore and try things I never heard of, like a moon grape or pluots. So with that Atlanta, start spreading the love & support!

Freedom Farmers Market – year round market at the Carter Center, offers a wide range of organic, local products.

DeKalb Farmers Market (my favorite) – year round world market- any & every thing you can and can’t think of!

Marietta Square Farmers Market – year round, with an average of 65 vendors and hundreds of customers each week.

Community Farmers Markets – includes Decatur, East Atlanta, Grant Park, Ponce City & the Marta Market. Most of these run from April through December, so be sure to check the website!

Heritage Sandy Springs Market – Each Saturday morning, mid-April to December, 40-50 vendors offer fresh, local, and organic produce, along with pasture-raised meat and pork products, farm fresh eggs and dairy products.

Buford Highway Farmers Market – year round, unique and exotic produce, organic fruits and vegetables, and a diverse meat and seafood department.

Atlanta State Farmers Market – is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 150 acres, our Atlanta Market is considered one of the largest of its kind in the world.
